Following significant investment, a rare opportunity has come about for dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced registered healthcare professionals with experience in acute mental health to be at the forefront of the development of the Psychiatric Liaison service within Somerset.

The service will have at its core, excellence in patient care, whilst ensuring staff are supported, developed and encouraged through clinical supervision, education and training opportunities, allowing you to be a vital part of the growth of the team.

The Psychiatric Liaison Services work as a single point of access for referrals and provides a range of mental health specialties within one multidisciplinary team to patients aged 18 years and over. Our teams respond to a diverse range of referrals covering both the Liaison and Emergency assessment functions and providing a flexible countywide service to two acute hospitals.

You will be a self-starter with excellent communication skills, be able to work in potentially high pressure environments, whilst maintaining the ability to remain calm and professional. You must be confident in your assessment skills and have the ability to make autonomous decisions within a multi-disciplinary team where support and advice will always be available.

You must be keen to develop relationships with all grades of staff within the general hospital sites, and have a vision for developing the service to ensure that you are visible, approachable and reactive to patients in mental health crisis, or those needing assessment on the general wards.

Experience in risk assessment, and in adult or older persons acute mental health is essential. Opportunities to further develop your skills in assessing mental health issues in specialist general areas (i.e. neurology, gastroenterology etc) will be actively encouraged and supported.

The service’s operational hours mean you will be required to work shifts but part time and flexible working patterns will be considered for successful applicants.

We look forward to welcoming enthusiastic and dynamic individuals, with a passion for delivering excellence in patient care, who wish to be part of this fantastic opportunity to hone your skills in a speciality that is a potentially challenging, always changing, but an exciting and supportive place to work.
