Applications are invited for a Consultant in Rheumatology at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated colleague to work closely with the existing consultants and specialist nurse team. The post will be based at Musgrove Park Hospital where you will be required to manage outpatients, inpatient referrals, day case patients and contribute towards teaching and training. We offer a job environment where both the community’s health needs and the successful applicant’s career ambition are in focus when designing services.

About Us
Musgrove Park Hospital is the largest acute hospital in Somerset serving a population of over 340,000, with an excellent reputation for providing a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and specialist services (including supra-regional) and an excellent teaching environment. We are consistently highly rated in the GMC national training survey within the South West. In 2016 we had the highest number of positive green flags in the Severn region. In our 2016 CQC inspection, Musgrove was rated as ‘good’ overall with an ‘outstanding’ rating for care.

The Trust is forming a pioneering alliance with Somerset Partnership NHSFT. This is an exciting opportunity to integrate acute, mental health and community services and re-design clinical pathways for the benefit of our patients.

In 2016 we were selected to be a ‘Global Digital Exemplar’ (GDE). One of only 16 acute Trusts who have been selected to trail blaze new ways of using digital technology to drive radical improvements in the care of patients. We currently have 20 separate work streams under the GDE project, including a partnership with Deepmind Health using the Streams app to bring mobile technology to the patient’s bedside.

The Area
Taunton has recently been named as one of the new ‘Garden Towns’, this combines the best of both town and country living in one place. From the beaches of North Devon and Cornwall, to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, Taunton offers you all the perks while still being less than two hours by train from London.

Nestled in the heart of Somerset, as the County town, Taunton has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, and boasts sporting arenas such as the County Cricket Ground, hosting international fixtures. With the idyllic rolling hills of the Quantocks and Exmoor National Park easily reached, there is plenty to keep you occupied alongside the abundance of music festivals and local traditions.

Somerset offers excellent educational opportunities at both outstanding independent schools and highly rated non-selective schools.

Full registration with the GMC is essential. If you are not currently on the specialist register please include your CCT date.
