An exciting opportunity has arisen at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust for a motivated, experienced therapy radiographer who is looking to develop their career at the award winning and innovative Beacon Radiotherapy Centre.

We are looking for someone who has a passion to care for patients with urology cancers and who is willing to set up and develop this exciting new role within the wider remit of the urology cancer pathway. As an advanced practitioner, evidence based practice will lead you to develop and implement radiotherapy techniques.  You will be instrumental in the support, treatment, consent and review of all urology patients and ensure excellent clinical governance for this patient cohort. We will support you with any training needed. Could you be the right person to join our team of advanced practitioners at the Beacon Centre?

The Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital opened in May 2009 bringing radiotherapy facilities to the population of Somerset. The service is equipped with a Toshiba Aquilion wide-bore CT simulator, Elekta Synergy and Precise linear accelerators, XStrahl superficial x-ray unit, mould room and workshop, Elekta Mosaiq Oncology Management System, AcQSim Virtual Simulation and Pinnacle Treatment Planning System. A linear accelerator replacement programme is scheduled to commence in 2019, continuing the provision of cutting-edge service delivery.

Aside from being rated as an area of Outstanding Practice by the CQC (2016), the centre has received accolades for the high-quality care delivered, including CHKS ISO 9001 accreditation, Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) rated 5 out of 5 on all principles, Investors in People Gold Award and Customer Service Excellence Award, July 2016 (the only NHS organisation to ever receive an A+++ rating). In the 2016 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, the Beacon Centre was ranked second overall and is a genuine reflection of the exemplary person-centred care delivered.

The successful candidate will join a team of eight Clinical Oncologists, 30 Radiographers and 12 Physics staff. With a passion for team development, the service has fostered pathways for career progression including a range of Advanced, Consultant and leadership roles. Beyond this, the team boasts a culture which is passionately committed to innovative, high-quality care.

You’ll get to experience life in the West Country, taking advantage of easy access to some of the UK’s most desirable locations. From the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, North Devon and Cornwall, to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, Taunton offers all the perks while still being less than two hours from London. Nestled between areas of outstanding natural beauty and the idyllic rolling hills of Exmoor, Taunton has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, and boasts sporting arenas such as the County Cricket Ground, regularly hosting international fixtures, as well as featuring national hotspots for cycling, surfing, and climbing, such as Cheddar Gorge, with an abundance of music festivals and local traditions. With excellent educational opportunities and an abundance of picturesque countryside, we think there is nowhere better. Throw in a cost of living that will see you afford a higher quality of life, including an average house price of £212,490 (June 2018), and a significantly lower than national average crime rate, we like to think we are offering you the best of both worlds, professionally and personally.

This exciting role will be a key member of the radiotherapy team, working flexibly and engaging in service development.
