What do we have to offer?
An international reputation for clinical excellence:
Aside from being rated as an area of Outstanding Practice by the CQC (2016), the centre has received accolades for the high-quality care delivered, including CHKS ISO 9001 accreditation, Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) rated 5 out of 5 on all principles, Investors in People Gold Award and Customer Service Excellence Award, July 2016. In the 2016 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, the Beacon Centre was ranked second overall and is a genuine reflection of the exemplary person-centred care delivered.
High-quality service and equipment:
The Beacon Centre provides radiotherapy for the patients of Somerset, treating around 1450 patients a year. The centre opened in 2009 and the service is equipped with a Philips Brilliance wide-bore CT simulator, 3 Elekta linear accelerators (2 with CBCT), XStrahl superficial x-ray unit, mould room and well equipped workshop, Elekta Mosaiq Oncology Management System, AcQSim Virtual Simulation and Pinnacle Treatment Planning System.
A passionate and caring team:
The successful candidates will join a team of eight Clinical Oncologists, 28 Radiographers and 12 Physics staff. The team boasts a culture which is passionately committed to innovative, high-quality care. The RT Physics team currently comprises 6 clinical scientists, 5 dosimetrists and a physics assistant, providing scientific and technical support to the wider radiotherapy service. The key areas of responsibility for each post holder are detailed in the appropriate job descriptions.
VMAT/IMRT is used in around 50% of planning cases per month. SABR for lung tumours was implemented in August 2016. We work closely with Clinical Oncologists and the Radiotherapy team to offer patients access to the latest clinical trials. Until very recently we were the second highest recruiter to the RAIDER trial for adaptive bladder radiotherapy.
The Beacon Centre is a PFI building and a managed equipment service is in place for most hardware. Between 2018 and 2020, two accelerators, the Pinnacle TPS, MOSAIQ and other dosimetry/QA equipment will be replaced or updated. All post holders will have an important role in participating in the refresh program and supporting the Radiotherapy Physics and Radiotherapy Services through this challenging period.
A desirable location:
You’ll get to experience life in the West Country, taking advantage of easy access to some of the UK’s most desirable locations. From the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, North Devon and Cornwall, to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, Taunton offers all the perks while still being less than two hours from London. Nestled between areas of outstanding natural beauty and the idyllic rolling hills of Exmoor, Taunton has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, and boasts sporting arenas such as the County Cricket Ground, regularly hosting international fixtures, as well as featuring national hotspots for cycling, surfing, and climbing, such as Cheddar Gorge, with an abundance of music festivals and local traditions. With excellent educational opportunities and an abundance of picturesque countryside, we think there is nowhere better. Throw in a cost of living that will see you afford a higher quality of life, including an average house price of £212,490 (June 2017), and a significantly lower than national average crime rate, we like to think we are offering you the best of both worlds, professionally and personally.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
