The Endoscopy Department at Musgrove Park Hospital is a fast paced and varied environment, where you would be able to learn and develop your nursing or Endoscopy skills.
We have opportunities for Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners to join our highly skilled and motivated team, working across our 3 room unit at Musgrove and our single procedure room based at the new Bridgwater Hospital, we also carry out ERCP’s within our x-ray department, and general anaesthetic lists in our Day Surgery Centre.
You’ll spend your day assisting Gastroenterologists, Surgeons and our Nurse Endoscopists with a range of specialised and technical procedures such as colonoscopy and gastroscopy. You’ll be able to follow the patient’s journey through the department, from gaining their consent and preparing them for their procedure, helping them feel at ease, to assisting in their recovery and after care.
Ideally, you’ll have some endoscopy experience; however we will provide you with full training as long as you have an interest in endoscopy.
We have exciting plans for the future as we are in the planning phase of a new surgical centre that will include 6 Endoscopy rooms, within a brand new building.
Somerset is part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and we undertake both the FOBT and bowel scope screening programmes.
The hours are between 8 – 6.30pm weekdays, with possible weekend working in the future.
When you are fully trained (likely to be around 9 months, but it will depend on your experience) you’ll be required to take part in the on-call rota, which includes 1 in 13 weekends and some weeknights.
You would have the opportunity to rotate through our gastroenterology ward, which will give you the knowledge to develop your skills in all aspects of the specialty, including caring for patients with GI bleeds, elective & emergency endoscopy procedures, palliative care, alcohol dependency, eating disorders, oesophageal and liver disorders within an acute ward environment.
We welcome any informal visits to the Department and will be happy to speak to you over a hot drink!
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
