CONSULTANT PSYCHIATRIST in Liaison Psychiatry, with a special interest in older adults

Somerset - Taunton

Somerset is developing a new Liaison Psychiatry service which will significantly improve service provision for patients across the county. The service will cover both Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital and has financial backing and support from all three main NHS providers in the county and is supported by the CCG and STP. We are now seeking a passionate and knowledgeable consultant, with a particular interest in older adults’ care who can deliver a high quality liaison service in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

  • Are you experienced and passionate about mental health services for older adults?
  • Could you take a prominent role in service development?
  • Are you knowledgeable and passionate enough to raise the profile of mental health and parity of esteem for this service?
  • Are you looking for a role with wider scope than the normal consultant role?

Then this could be the right role for you.

You will need to be a consultant psychiatrist, who has extensive liaison experience and a particular interest in the care of older adults. A robust knowledge of the legal aspects of inpatient care for detained and incapacitated patients is essential. Experience of multi-agency working with complex co-morbid patients with dementia or other mental health problems is vital, as is a holistic perspective and a focus on the wellbeing of patients during an inpatient stay.  This role also carries the important responsibility of trainer and educator in the hospital.

We will be able to offer you the opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills in an area of increasing focus and importance. We have a strong emphasis on supporting consultants in developing leadership and management, as well as other areas of interest including research.

We are a flexible employer who focuses on the needs of our staff and aims to accommodate family or caring commitments that our employees may bring. Wherever possible we shape job plans to fit around other caring commitments where these may impact on a normal working week.

Somerset Partnership is a mental health and community trust that is developing close links with the two acute trusts in the county. The county is large and geographically varied providing an opportunity for more rural living while still working in a thriving and exciting NHS Foundation Trust. We have a strong focus on mental health in our service, and are currently collaborating closely with local universities to develop research projects within Somerset and Devon.
